"The all-round application of ion exchangers in chemistry (not only in analytical chemistry) is leading to their continuous development. New types of ion exchangers are synthetized and their application possibilitics are still growing. Eight chapters of this monograph are divided into three parts and two appendices. The first part of the book describes the general characteristics and basic properties of ion exchangers and ion-exchanging processes. Selected theoretical data, concerned with the use of ion exchangers in analytical chemistry, are also mentioned. In the second part of the book, the physico-chemical properties of ion exchangers are summarized as well as methods of their determination are described. The attention is also paid to the laboratory equipment used for the work with ion exchangers. This part also contains a comprehensive chapter dealing with the problem of the separation of inorganic ion mixtures, the application of ion exchangers in the concentrating of tracer amounts of elements in solutions, radiochemical multielemental analysis and the application of selective and inorganic ion exchangers in analytical practice. The last part of the book is presented in the form of tables and graphs. It also deals with the properties of commercially produced ion-exchanging materials and summarizes a great amount of data on the equilibrium distribution coefficients of various ions for a series of selected systems. These data may help the reader in the choice of an appropriate ion exchanger and working procedure for a given purpose. The appendices contain various auxilliary data and a comprehensive summary of monographs dealing with ion exchangers. The book contains more than 1300 selected references to literature, several dozens of graphs and more than one hundred extensive tables. The book is designated not only to analytical chemists, but it can be also interesting for specialists working in other fields of chemistry, radiochemistry, biochemistry and pharmacy."
