"A triennial event, the Danner Prize is one of the most important distinctions awarded in the German-speaking countries for outstanding achievement in arts and crafts. Again this year, an international jury was presented with a large number of objects meeting the highest standards in the fields of metalworking, jewelry, glass, woodworking, ceramics and textiles. This publication presents 167 works by the finalists selected for the exhibition. Representing creativity at its finest, the selection confirms the commitment and vitality shown by the artists active in contemporary arts and crafts. The confrontation of the moderns with tradition produces many objects which approach product design yet transcend mere functionality for a specific purpose to emerge as free art in its own right. Among the winners, Manfred Bischoff was awarded the first prize this year for 'Mother and Sons', a work which blurs the boundaries between jewellery and design, drawing and object."
