"This publication contains [over 120] photographs from the 1970s and 1980s, when Dana Kyndrova methodically depicted the atmosphere of mass Communist ceremonies in Prague, held on Letna Plain (May Day), the Old Town Square (the anniversary of the Great October Socialist Revolution and Victorious February, the Peace Congress) and at Strahov Stadium (the Spartakiads). These three basic political 'pillars' of the project are complemented by photographs of everyday life during the period of normalization, and of smaller, non-political (or, more specifically, 'personal') customs such as dance lessons, high-school graduation, Christmas, pig-slaughtering and hunters' feasts, discos, hop-picking, and the annual St Matthew's Fair, which indirectly accentuate the atmosphere of those bleak times. Although a number of these photographs have been published or exhibited by the author in previous projects, this is the first time they have been presented in this concept, which can mere or less be regarded as a retrospective of her work from the 1970s and 1980s."
